Orcas Island Getaway: Day 2
As I write this, I’m on a ferryboat to Orcas Island. I wasn’t supposed to be on a ferryboat, but here’s what happened.
We got to the airport around 8 am Indianapolis time. The flight departed at 10 am, and by noon Pacific Time we’d arrived in Seattle.
We got lunch at a fairly decent eatery in the terminal. The weather here is typical for Seattle; rainy and overcast. At 2 pm we headed to the pickup area for our shuttle bus to Boeing Field, where our Kenmore Airlines flight was set to depart for Orcas at 3:00 pm.
The shuttle bus driver pulled up, and announced that the flight was cancelled. And so began our odyssey by bus to get to Anacortes to the ferry that goes to Orcas Island.
Rosie was a real trouper—she didn’t seem the least bit concerned about how we’d get to the island. I guess she figured Mom and Dad would work it out. It was a bit stressful, but everyone has been super nice, and it actually is rather pleasant chugging along on the ferry. The hardest part was finding the bus at the terminal, and it’s a lot cheaper going by boat, so we’ll end up saving money.
We’re almost there and it looks like the weather may be clearing up. Orcas Island, here we come!
Postscript: We reached Orcas at 8:15 pm, the rental company had our car waiting, we ate dinner at Bilbo's Festiva and then collapsed in bed at the Beach House after being up for 20 hours straight. We all slept like logs!
